Easter Egg
|
Ok I couldn't really resist putting in my own hidden section into the new website!
Yeah so I pretty much rescued the website around Christmas 2009 and finally completed updating it on 25/09/10. It was a massive effort as it took me over 6 months but I can't take all the credit. James Threadgill designed the snazzy graphics and layout and without this I wouldn't have got very far. still it still gets to go on my CV so that's something. Anyway, is there anything useful I can put here??? I suppose I should talk about Ultimate. When I first arrived at Bristol in 2007, I had played ultimate once before on a hill in Wales with mates which was frankly a miracle knowing how lazy they are. Previously I had played rugby for 10 years an was completely sold on that but was convinced to give ultimate ago when Hamish Sinclair, who you won't know, said "looks like we've finally found a sport that Damian's good at", I went along because it was the cliched thing for students to do, but found it was so much more than that. The best thing about starting to play ultimate is that nearly everyone starts at the same level you can all struggle together for the first couple of weeks. Talking of struggling, I quickly became apparent that I couldn't throw a forehand for my life and I came close just accepting that I would never be able to throw a proper side arm. But it eventually clicked, but really i should have worked on it early rather than burying my head in the sand. Back in my youth I played ultimate for the glory of pulling off a sick layout, this resulted in me ending up on the floor alot and amounting an impressive selection of injuries I remember hucking a perfect backhand to Macca early on and watching as the whole club stopped to watch him bring it down. That was pretty awesome. Sometimes I wish Ultimate had more of following, like football or Rugby or other conventional sports. But then it wouldn't be the same sport any more, the SOTG would not be able to function at a higher level and it is that which makes ultimate such a joy to play and be apart of. Well that's enough self indulgent, sentimental rambling for now. Congrates on finding this and I hope you enjoy your time playing ultimate as much as I have. DJ Rumble - Secretary 2008-2010 |
