The Bristol 1sts came into the Exeter match on the back of a humbling defeat to Bath, where the players had failed to click in difficult conditions. It was 2nd December and the last game before Christmas, so the team wanted to finish strongly. The Bristol-Exeter match - the seventh of the year - was also expected to be a key battle in the inaugural BUCS league.
After the three hour journey, Bristol started on D on a strongly up-down wind pitch. Bristol were unable to break into the wind and this set the tone for the first few points to be traded, before an upwind score from each side made it 4-4. With key players showing their quality, Bristol were able to get another upwind before the half to make it 8-6.
Starting the second half with a downwind O point, Bristol's MVP Nate Sanders assisted to Captain Jamie Lowe - now a familiar combination. Exeter scored their downwind after the hooter meaning at 9-7 it was game to 10. Bristol took control and with some patient play outside the endzone and a lovely dump-swing to take the point and win the Match. Big-game player Harry Young took A-game to join Nate in the awards.
The boys now enjoy a mid-season break before Cardiff in February, as they continue to push for Division 1 at Nationals.
