volunteering
There are a number of opportunities for volunteering, both locally and abroad. Details of some of these are posted below. Please contact the relevant organisations for more details as we can't provide any more information ourselves.
SPW - (Student Partnerships Worldwide) is an international development charity working in Africa and Asia, and they're also co-ordinating the Student Stop AIDS Campaign. Through community and school-based programmes they work to empower young people, to help them get involved in the decisions that shape their future. In the deprived rural communities where SPW operates the health services and the schools cannot provide the essential information and resources young people need to avoid life threatening diseases like malaria and HIV/AIDS. Through these projects SPW volunteers provide peer education on sexual health and HIV/AIDS, but such work needs the support of a public policy environment which puts young people at the centre.
Terrence Higgins Trust - (THT) is the leading HIV & AIDS charity in the UK and the largest in Europe. People volunteer in all sorts of roles from helping out for a few hours at a fundraising event to running the reception desk at a THT service centre for a couple of days a week.
Bristol Volunteers for Development Abroad - (BVDA) is a charity affiliated to the University f Bristol Student Union, and gives opportunities for students to participate in HIV/AIDS education in Uganda.
The Kenya Acorn Project -email Muriel Armstrong on mailto:muriel.armstrong@unn.ac.uk for more details. Opportunities to help out in schools and the hospital carrying out HIV/AIDS related work. A chance to see the difference our fundraising makes.
