In addition to the normal rallies, karting and mini-moto events
the club also organises a wide variety of events, some of which
are detailed below.
Off-Roading

This
is always a very popular event where members take stripped out
landrovers around specially built off-road courses to see who can drive
the quickest in a very demanding situation.
Treasure Hunts
This is almost exactly the same game you would have probably played
when you were about 5 years old except we do it a little differently;
instead of running around looking under bushes and garden swings we
drive around in teams in our cars to look for answers which may be
miles apart on wonderfully twisty country roads!
Track Days

A
group of the Motor Club members also attend a few track days each year.
Although track days are often more expensive than most BUMC events they
are definitely worth trying. It doenst matter if your car isnt very
quick or if you havnt done any track driving before, everyone is
welcome (aslong as you have a full UK driving license). Last year we
even went on a group trip to the infamous Nurburgring circuit in
Germany for a weekend long track day!
Marshalling
Each
year the BUMC gets invited to help marshal various motorsport events.
Basically what this involves is keeping spectators from throwing
themselves under the wheels of fast cars (no really - you'd be suprised!)
while getting as close as possible to the action yourself.
In the past this has included some stages of the Rally of Great
Britain, however a cruel rule change no longer allows us to do this.
In 2001 we marshalled part of the St. Gwynno stage in South Wales.
Aside from various pyromanical diversions and some burnt sausages
that tasted only slightly of de-icer, everything went swimmingly.
The opportunity of watching the world's best, carving their way
effortlessly through the dirt tracks of the Welsh countryside is
unforgettable and not one to be missed!
You
can read the full review of the trip on pages 2 & 3 of Wheelspin
56, from the newsletters page.
The
Motorshow
In
the past a BUMC trip to the British International Motorshow has
been organised. This is a unique event in the annual motorsport
calendar. It allows the many car manufacturers to show off their
latest designs and also exhibit their concept cars - designs that
push the usual boundaries and conventions of car design but won't
make it into full scale production.
