Funding call for Bristol WUN symposium

Call for Bristol WUN Symposium

The Worldwide Universities Network (WUN) is a global alliance of research universities. Central to WUN’s mission is the fostering of international collaborative research. WUN members draw on combined resources and expertise to advance knowledge and understanding on issues of global concern. The University of Bristol is an active member of WUN.

Funds are available in Bristol to support an international research symposium aimed at stimulating new ideas and research collaborations with our WUN partners.

The symposium, spread over several days, will have wide participation from across WUN and involve senior researchers as well early career researchers with leadership potential. The event will provide a platform for focus on the topic and for all participants to contribute to discussions and plan follow up collaborative work.

Deadline:

The call will close on 1 April 2010.

Eligibility:

Open to all Bristol academics

Aims

  • To stimulate joint working with our WUN partners
  • To raise Bristol’s profile internationally
  • To provide an opportunity for early stage researchers to develop their own international networks

Scope

  • A single award of £10,000 will be made
  • The symposium must be held in Bristol in 2010, spread over a number of days
  • Aimed at early career researchers (within the first five years of their initial appointment) and supporting senior researchers (approximately 30 participants drawn from Bristol and at least three other WUN institutions, ideally with a good geographic spread)
  • Theme should be in an area of emerging research strength in Bristol and in which WUN holds complementary expertise
  • The programme should be designed to promote discussion and exchange of ideas and may include plenary discussions, debates, networking sessions, workshops and skills based sessions (akin to a summer school/sandpit format rather than a traditional conference)
  • Applications should be ambitious

How to apply

Complete the application form [Word (166 Kb)] and return electronically to the WUN Development Manager by 5pm on 1 April 2010. Applications will be reviewed internally by the WUN Bristol Advisory Group.
