To set up your (PC) screen to display more than 256 colours:

Microscopy images may not display well with a low colour setting, in our experience the best balance between quality and performance is achieved by using a mid-range setting of 16-bit or 65536 colours.
  • Click START
  • Click SETTINGS
  • Click CONTROL PANEL
  • Double-click DISPLAY
  • Select the SETTINGS tab
  • In the COLOR PALETTE dialogue box select 16 bit High Color (65536 colors) or greater . . .
  • . . . and preferably 800 by 600 pixels or greater in DESKTOP AREA
  • Click TEST (in NT) or OK (in Windows 95/98/2000/XP) to test the new settings for a few seconds
  • Click OK if it works
