Meet the Governance team

Ms Katy Gullon

Head of Governance 

Responsibilities: Katy is responsible for leading the University Governance Office, ensuring the provision of a professional secretarial service to the University’s main governance bodies – Court, Council, Senate and other University Committees as appropriate.  Katy works closely with the Registrar & University Secretary, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, the Director of Legal Services and the Director of Planning to ensure that the above bodies operate in conformity with the University’s constitution and audit, regulatory and legal requirements.

She is also responsible for sharing best practice in governance across the institution, aiding others in understanding the University’s governance and decision-making structure and helping to ensure a consistent and high standard of support for all of its key committees.

Ms Lucy Barling

Senior Governance Officer

Responsibilities:Lucy services some of the University’s senior committees. She is also responsible for the organisation of the Annual Meeting of the University Court, coordinates elections to Court, Council, Senate and leads on the recruitment of new lay members of Council.  Lucy undertakes annual audits of the skills base of Council and key committees to identify skills shortages.  She devises and implements training for current and prospective committee secretaries/minute takers and provides chairs training for colleagues at all levels of the University.

Lucy assists the Head of Governance in supporting Council and Senate meetings and acts as deputy.  Lucy also helps to ensure strong lines of communication between Senate, Council, Court and the senior executive of the University, including the provision of information and advice to committee chairs, committee members and members of the senior management team. Lucy assists the Head of Governance in managing the University's Annual Risk Review. Recently, the Governance team took over responsibility for co-ordinating School and Divisional Reviews and Lucy is managing these processes.

 

Mrs Helen Cole and Mrs Julie Jervis

Governance Administrator (job share)

Responsibilities: Helen/Julie are the Administrators in the Governance team and wider Planning team and the main point of contact for the office. They have a diverse role, primarily providing support with Council, Senate and Court and some associated committees. Helen/Julie are responsible for preparing the University Committee Schedule.

Helen works Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and Julie works full time (Monday - Friday).
