New/current Parking Policy: Applying for a university car parking permit

The University has the following types of parking permits; Staff, Car Sharing, Disabled, Departmental and Contractor. The details and application forms for each category can be viewed below.

Existing 2016/2017 parking permits will expire on 31 December 2017. The forthcoming shortened 2017/2018 permit year will run from 1 January 2018 to 31 July 2018 and the application window for these permits is now open and will close on 27 October 2017. Application forms should be downloaded from the relevant section of this web page.

A new on-line parking permit and coupon management system will be implemented for the 2018/2019 permit year. Further information on the new permit and coupon management system will be available on these web pages, and via the weekly staff bulletin, in advance of the implementation of the new system in April 2018.

Parking bay markings

University parking spaces are lined according to the specific use of each bay as follows:

Staff parking permit application documents

2. Staff Car Sharing parking (new policy)

CSP-C.01

Two or more salaried members of staff whose General parking permit applications are successful in the same permit year.

A request form to create a formal car sharing team (Doc Ref SP4) may be submitted along with your staff parking permit application (Doc Ref SP1). If do not submit the SP4 document with your staff parking permit application (SP1) but wish to create a formal car sharing team, you may submit the SP4 document at any time thereafter during the same permit year.

Please note: If you have already been issued with an individual staff parking permit and wish to create a formal car sharing team within this same permit year, you may submit the SP4 document to Security Services who will process the request for you.

3. Disabled Staff and Disabled Students parking (new policy)

Disabled staff and disabled students' parking permit application documents

Note: Disabled parking permits (new applications)

The 2017/2018 permit year has been shortened and will run from 1 January 2018 to 31 July 2018, and the application window for disabled parking permits is now open.

Note: Existing Disabled parking permits

Existing 2016/2017 disabled parking permits will expire on 31 December 2017. The 2017/2018 permit year has been shortened and will run from 1 January 2018 to 31 July 2018, and the application window for disabled parking permits is now open.

Note: Existing Disabled parking permits (temporary)

If you have a disabled parking permit with a specific expiry date and you wish to continue to use a disabled parking space after that date, you will need to apply for a disabled permit prior to the expiry date stated on your permit. Applications will need to be made via the updated application forms and documents that are now available.

4. Departmental parking (new policy)

Departmental parking applications will be measured against Criteria Reference DeptP-C.01 - DeptP-C.04  based on the frequency of parking space use.  Frequent usage is defined as a space being in use for a minimum of three days per week for at least 70 percent of the period that is covered by supporting evidence provided by the department.

5. Contractor parking (new policy)

A visitor who has been contracted by the University to provide a service and must park their vehicle in close proximity to the building where they are working.

Contractor parking permit application documents

Contractor parking permits will expire on 31 December 2017. The 2017/2018 permit year has been shortened and will run from 1 January 2018 to 31 July 2018 and the application window for new contractor permits is now open and will close on 27 October 2017.

The qualifying criteria for 2017/2018 contractor permits remains exactly the same as for the 2016/2017 permit application window, and as per the 2016/2017 guidance below. Each contractor must reapply for a new permit before the end of the permit year, irrespective of the term of their contract.
