Massimo RondolinoIt is an excellent opportunity to study the doctrine, languages, history and social aspects of Buddhism in its most important and historically defining traditions.
The Bristol MA in Religion: Buddhist Studies is the longest established Masters programme of its kind in the UK.
We aim to engage graduate students in a deep and thorough exploration of the history, thought and practice of Buddhism in South and Southeast Asia, and China. All students also undertake intensive study of a canonical Buddhist language (Pali, Sanskrit or Chinese).
The MA offers students the chance to work closely with leading scholars within the Centre for Buddhist Studies, the first such centre ever established in the UK.
Students can study for the MA on a full-time (one year) or part-time (two years) basis. The course comprises five taught units and a research dissertation.
All students are taught the specialist skills essential to postgraduate-level research, and the practical skills which academic life now demands. Everyone is expected to enter fully into the wider academic community of the Department and University.
