Theatre Collection Archival Donations
The Theatre Collection is always happy to consider donations of theatrical material, including Live
Art, that are relevant to our Acquisition Policy. The quality of the archive held at the
Theatre Collection is a reflection of the generosity of our past donors. Donations range from individual items
to complete personal collections and company archives. Highlights of our most recent acquisitions
are published in our regular newsletter.
Theatre Programmes
Although we hold over 150,000 Theatre Programmes, we do welcome further donations. We would
ask that donors undertake to deliver them to us if at all possible, and are happy for us to weed
out those we may already hold. The majority of surplus programmes are passed on to a specialist
dealer and the money received is then re-invested into the Theatre Collection.
This practice is in line with the Museums Association Code of Ethics. Please note that Theatre Programmes
are the only items that the Theatre Collection may decide to sell and we do not dispose of any other
archival material in this manner.
Please be aware that we do not collect programmes relating to either opera or ballet, unless the performance
took place at the Theatre Royal or the Bristol Hippodrome, or it has some particular relevance to our
archive collections. We also only collect Amateur Theatre programmes for Bristol and its environs.
We are happy to discuss the possibility of any donation to the Theatre Collection, so please
don't hesitate to contact us.
When you donate items, you can be sure that your gift will be cared for to museum standards,
and once catalogued, made available to all users.
