Updates on the successful and enjoyable launch of Playwright: the craft of Kevin Elyot on the 24th May, 2017
On Wednesday 24th May, we were delighted to welcome family, friends and fans of Kevin Elyot to two events at the Theatre Collection, which were both made possible by the generosity of Kevin Elyot’s family.
The first of the two events was led by Ian McHugh, the inaugural winner of the annual Kevin Elyot Writer-in-Residence Award, who reflected on the writing of his new work that responds to the Kevin Elyot Archive. Ian spoke about presence and absence within Kevin Elyot Archive and the archive’s influence on his work. We were also treated to excerpts from Good Morning Captain, the play that Ian has been writing during his residency at the Theatre Collection, which was greatly enjoyed by all who attended. The completed play will be performed in the autumn and full details will be announced nearer the time.
The second part of the evening saw the opening of our new exhibition Playwright: the craft of Kevin Elyot. The exhibition combines materials used for inspiration, notebooks and work-in-progress scripts that explore his process, with publicity materials displaying the realisation from page to production. It was a great evening and could not have been made possible without the generous support of Kevin Elyot’s family.
Playwright: the craft of Kevin Elyot continues at the Theatre Collection until October 2017
