  • Job Vacancy: 2x Project Archivists (Bristol Old Vic) 13 December 2016 Following the award of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant to Bristol Old Vic, the University of Bristol Theatre Collection, working in partnership with Bristol Old Vic and Bristol Archives, is recruiting for two Project Archivists. Two fixed term contracts are available, both of which are based at the Theatre Collection: a three year fixed term contract to arrange and catalogue Bristol Old Vic Archive and a two year fixed term contract to arrange and catalogue the archives of associated individuals and organisations such as director John Moody and designer Graham Barlow, as well as the records of the Theatre Royal, Bristol, held at Bristol Archives.

  • Bristol Old Vic Heritage Lottery Fund Award 13 October 2016 We're delighted to announce that the Heritage Lottery Fund have awarded £2.4m towards the transformation of the theatre into a major heritage destination. The Theatre Collection and the Bristol Record Office are partners in this project, and part of the funding will enable a substantial programme of conservation, cataloguing and digitisation of the Bristol Old Vic Archive.
  • Job Vacancy: Project Archivist (Oliver Messel Archive) at the Theatre Collection (this position has now been filled). 23 September 2016 Following the award of a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, the University of Bristol Theatre Collection is recruiting for a Project Archivist to catalogue the personal archive of Oliver Messel (1904-1978), one of the foremost stage designers of the twentieth century. Messel was at the forefront of theatre design from the late 1920s to the 1950s. His design work also embraced screen, interiors and architecture and continued until his death in 1978. His work as an architect and interior designer in Barbados and Mustique is particularly well documented in his archive.
  • Conserving Messel's magic for future generations 8 September 2016 The University of Bristol Theatre Collection has received £73,000 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) to catalogue, conserve and ultimately make available to the public, the personal archive of one of the last century's foremost theatrical designers, Oliver Messel (1904-1978).

  • Naked Objects:Intelligent Showcases - Tac.to Case Study now available to view 21 July 2015 A group of academics from the Schools of Arts and Computer Science, led by Jo Elsworth at the University of Bristol’s Theatre Collection, worked with creative industry partner Aerian, a digital software agency, to develop a prototype interactive display case.
