Person-to-person (video) conferencing

These services can be used to send instant messages, share files, screen share, and make low-cost calls to landlines and mobiles in the UK or overseas. The following three tools are supported by the University and your choice of which to use is based on what you want to do and also on which tool the person you want to communicate with is using. Remember that all participants may need microphones and/or webcams depending on what you want to do.

Skype advice

Skype is Microsoft's best-known instant-messaging, file-sharing and video-chat platform, which lets you interact on a one-to-one basis. (Skype for Business with PSTN calling is not available via the University.)

Blue Jeans advice

BlueJeans lets you make group video calls. It works with all existing videocall softwares and technologies, including smartphones and tablets.

Google Hangouts advice

Google Hangouts is Google's instant messaging and video chat platform. The service as provided by the University now lets you make group video calls.
