About BSc Philosophy and Economics

This course allows you to combine two historically interlinked disciplines and develop a breadth of skills across both economics and philosophy.

The economics part of the course is technically rigorous and will build your analytical skills. There are mandatory units in macro- and microeconomics, mathematics, statistics and econometrics (the application of statistical methods to data to estimate economic models). These are complemented by units in philosophy, which will equip you with skills in textual analysis, written and verbal expression, logic and critical thinking.

As you progress through your degree you will be able to take an increasing number of optional units and specialise in areas that interest you most.

Previously, economics options have included: History of Economic Thought; Environmental Economics; Current Economic Problems.

Previous philosophy options have included: Philosophy of Psychology; Evil, Deviance and Crime; Classical Chinese Philosophy.

International Baccalaureate Diploma Standard offer	36 points overall with 18 at Higher Level, including Mathematics with either 6 at Higher Level (either Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretations) or 7 at Standard Level (Analysis and Approaches).
International Baccalaureate Diploma Contextual offer What is a contextual offer?	32 points overall with 16 at Higher Level, including Mathematics with either 5 at Higher Level (either Analysis and Approaches or Applications and Interpretations) or 7 at Standard Level (Analysis and Approaches).
Cambridge Pre-U offer	Requirements for principal subjects are as for A-level, where D1/ D2 is A*, D3 is A, M1/ M2 is B, and M3 is C.
Access to HE Diploma offer	Access to HE Diploma in Applied Science, Engineering, Mathematics and Engineering, or Science. The 45 graded Level 3 credits must include: at least 30 credits at Distinction and 15 at Merit or above; and at least 15 credits from Mathematics units, of which at least 12 must be at Distinction. Not all Mathematics units are accepted; please contact the Enquiries team for details. Or Access to HE Diploma in Business, plus A in A-level Mathematics. In the Access course, the 45 graded Level 3 credits must include at least 30 credits at Distinction and 15 at Merit or above. BTEC offer	DDD in Engineering, with Distinction in both Maths for Engineering Technicians and Further Maths for Engineering Technicians, or D*DD in Applied Science, plus A in A-level Mathematics
Scottish Qualifications Authority offer	Advanced Higher: AA including Mathematics, and Standard Higher: AAAAB
Welsh Baccalaureate offer	Requirements are as for A-levels, where you can substitute a non-subject specific grade for the Welsh Baccalaureate Advanced Skills Challenge Certificate at that grade.
