Our International Foundation Programme (IFP) is a one-year academic course specifically designed to prepare you for undergraduate study in the UK.

This programme is aimed at high-achieving students aspiring to progress to an undergraduate degree at the University of Bristol. Through intensive classes, you will develop your academic language, critical thinking, subject knowledge and independent study skills. This will enable you to fulfil your potential on an undergraduate course at Bristol.
When you pass the International Foundation Programme at the required level, you will be guaranteed a place at the University, or if you are interested in Medicine or Dentistry, you will be guaranteed an interview.

What kind of student would this course suit?
This programme is aimed at high-achieving international (not UK or EU) students aspiring to progress to an undergraduate degree at the University of Bristol. You will need a minimum level of English to be accepted onto this programme.

How is this course taught and assessed?
Our teaching is designed to help you transition into university life. You will be taught by highly qualified University of Bristol academic staff and will have access to all University resources and facilities. You will study on campus with other international students from around the world.
As a student studying on the International Foundation Programme, you will attend lectures, tutorials and classes. Students studying on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics pathway will also have practical and laboratory sessions, and the Medicine and Dentistry pathway includes practical and laboratory sessions as well as clinical observations. In addition to supervised teaching sessions, you will be expected to engage in independent study.
You will have a personal tutor to support your academic progress and access to wellbeing advisors throughout your studies to make sure your time at Bristol is rewarding. They will also offer guidance on securing a position on undergraduate courses within Bristol or the UK.
Our programmes are assessed in a number of ways, including through coursework and final exams in subject units and English units. Students on the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics or Medicine and Dentistry pathways will also have practical assessments.
What are my career prospects?
Passing the International Foundation Programme at the required level guarantees you a place at the University, or an interview for those interested in Medicine or Dentistry. Our programme is also recognised by other UK universities.
