About MEng Mathematics and Computer Science

This course combines theoretical knowledge from mathematics with concrete applications in computer science. It is ideal for anyone looking to apply themselves to problem solving in fields such as cryptography, algorithm design, artificial intelligence and high performance computing.

In the first year you will study essential core components of mathematics and computer science, giving you a rigorous foundation for future years. Subsequently, you will have the opportunity to tailor your mathematics and computer science options so that you graduate with a balance of theoretical and practical skills that reflect your interests.

Course structure

In your third and fourth year you choose from a a selection of approximately 35 units in each year, plus the opportunity to undertake a research project. Available units include options related to current research topics in the School of Mathematics and the Computer Science and Engineering Mathematics departments.

The Mathematics units taken should include calculus, algebra and trigonometry. A-level Mathematics at A (see Specified Subjects list below)
