Overview

This three year part-time programme is for dental practitioners who would like to develop their theoretical knowledge and practical clinical experience of treatment planning, surgical placement, restoration and maintenance of dental implants.

The programme's design allows you to gain experience using dental implants and prosthodontic elements related to dental implants within a supervised environment, while treating patients. You will build your knowledge through distance learning modules and study days which include a series of hands-on exercises. You will also have the opportunity to carry out a dissertation.

We aim to produce caring, knowledgeable and skilful practitioners who are competent in the provision of the planning, surgical, restorative and maintenance aspects of dental implant treatment, within the limits of the individual clinician.

Programme structure

The first two years contain six units each, five theory modules with hands-on sessions and one clinical module, spread over the academic year (September-July). They are designed to suit a working dentist by offering part-time studies.

Year 1 and 2 will require approximately 24 attendance days each, plus distance learning and assessments. In year 3, you will work (distance learning) with a supervisor to complete a dissertation in a subject of your choice related to dental implants.

Visit our programme catalogue for full details of the structure and unit content for our MSc Dental Implantology.
