Ideas and challenges

These opportunities allow students with ideas or skills to take control of how they are developed. It could be a business idea, a social enterprise or movement, a challenge or project set by an organisation, or a hackathon. You can also search for opportunities to find funding to support undergraduate research. Through these opportunities, you will be supported to develop your skills and progress your ideas

• Funding to support the development of ideas
  There are opportunities offered within the University that you can apply to for funding to support the development of your ideas. Often these will be focused on a particular area such as developing an entrepreneurial idea or designing an activity to widen access to university for certain groups in the community.
• Grants to enable undergraduate research projects
  There are external organisations and corporations who have funding available for undergraduates wishing to undertake research projects. It is possible for you to apply for funding to support you to undertake research in partnership with academics or professionals and there are a wide variety of focuses to this research funding, from specific causes such as animal behaviours to general subject areas such as Chemistry or History.
• Competitions and Challenges
  Opportunities have also been available for students to take part in competitions, challenges or hackathons. These are normally where a problem in current society is presented and students are tasked with submitting their innovative and practical solutions. This may be offered internally by the University, or by external companies and causes.
