What do I do if I forget my injection?
If you have forgotten your basal or long acting insulin you should do it when you remember. If more than 12 hours has passed you should take half your usual dose
If you have forgotten the meal-time insulin and it is less than 2 hours since you ate you could give slightly less. If it is more than 2 hours then you should just give your normal dose at the next meal time
What do I do if I run out of insulin or lose my pen?

Try to drink sensibly; remember that alcohol can reduce your awareness of having a hypo. Tell people you are with that you have diabetes and wear ID. Avoid illegal drugs that may cause erratic blood sugar levels.
If excess alcohol causes you to be sick your blood sugar can get out of control very quickly. You need to test your blood sugar levels and try to drink sugar-free fluids
What about contraception?
If you are female and have Type 1 diabetes it is really important that pregnancy is planned so reliable contraception is crucial. Hyperglycaemia around the time of conception leads to a higher risk of congenital abnormalities. You can obtain contraceptive advice from Student Health Centre
