Dr Dendy Platt

Dendy Platt has now retired but has retained the status of Honorary Senior Research Fellow in Social Work.  Before retiring, he co-developed, with Katie Riches, the C-Change approach to the assessment or parental capacity to change, and he continues to work on this project following retirement.  As co-editor with Professor Jan Horwath, he has recently published "The Child's World", the textbook on assessments of children in need and their families. His former teaching responsibilities were mainly on the MSc in Social Work and the Post-qualifying Specialist Award programme in Social Work with Children and Young People.  He has worked as a social worker and team leader in local authority social services departments, as a community worker with Save the Children, and as a family centre manager with Barnardo's.  Prior to coming to Bristol he was a lecturer at Northumbria University.  He has undertaken research and writing on social work assessments and decision-making in relation to children and families, on family support and on social workers’ engagement with families.
