A new educational approach to be evaluated in children's residential homes
11 November 2009
Professor David Berridge
Newly-awarded research in the
Centre for Family Policy and Child Welfare will evaluate a new educational approach being piloted in children's residential homes in England between 2009 and 2011. Known as 'social pedagogy', it is a system combining theory, practice and training which focuses on children’s ‘education’ in the broadest sense of the word and is already used widely in children’s residential homes in Europe. Funded by the
Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), the research is led by
Professor David Berridge and will be carried out with his colleagues
Eleanor Lutman and
Dr Lorna Henry. The evaluation will compare the effectiveness and outcomes of three different methods of implementing social pedagogy within residential settings.
