Autumn 2009 edition of PS, our School's research magazine

Autumn 2009

Read about the most recent research at the School for Policy Studies in the Autumn edition of PS, our research magazine.

Articles range from, an analysis of the implications that gender has for individuals (men and women) identified as perpetrators of domestic violence by the police, to an exploration of the experiences of young men living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who, with specialised medical treatments, are now living into adulthood.

This edition also includes a tribute to Professor Peter Townsend, one of the greatest social scientists of the 20th century, best known for his lifelong work which revolutionised both the theory and practice of poverty research.

Two further articles look at the shipment of and effects on poor children to Canada between 1867 and 1917, and the development of advocacy services in Scotland for people using health, education and other welfare services.

PS magazine is produced twice a year to demonstrate the diversity and range of the research that we undertake at the School and also with the aim of challenging and contributing to current policy issues. Previous editions are available on the PS magazine page.
