Ellen Malos retired as a Senior Lecturer in 2002. She now has an honorary university appointment as a Senior Research Fellow.
Ellen worked as a researcher and teacher in the University of Bristol for more than 20 years. She was a founder of the Domestic Violence Research Group (which became the Violence Against Women Research Group and then the Centre for Gender and Violence Research) in the School for Policy Studies which carries out a wide range of research into the impact of domestic violence on women and their children and looks at the implications for law, policy and practical services in local, national and international contexts. Prior to coming to the University, Ellen was actively involved with the Women's Aid movement in working to develop effective support across a range of services and much of her research and that of her colleague, Gill Hague, is carried out in consultation with the UK women's aid federations.
In 2006, Ellen was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws (L.L.D.) by the University of Bristol.
