University of Bristol Spartans Basketball Club win at Les Parisiennes tournament

26 March 2018

For the third year running, the University of Bristol Spartans Basketball Club entered into Les Parisiennes tournament in Paris last month.

This year saw the club enter two women's teams and one men's team, their biggest contingent to date, comprising of a range of players across all the BUCS teams.

Club President Diane McHugh says of the event;

"Expectations were not high as the women’s team had yet to win a game in the previous two years of the competition and the men’s team only winning one game in total. With more sleep than usual by taking the day coach and staying in paris the night before, instead of the overnight coach, the Spartans rocked up with energy and loud speakers taking the tournament by storm.

The men’s team managed to win another game this year despite only having 6 players, many of which have only ever played a couple of competitive basketball games before. Our women’s 1st team came in 3rd place overall and the 2nd team stayed undefeated throughout the tournament beating LSE 1sts in the finals by over 20 points. Special shoutouts go to our MVPs Noelia Gonzalez and Nej Karadeniz. We look forward to seeing what we can do next year!"
