Women's Hockey Champions Trophy

Georgie Twigg (Law) and Charlotte Craddock (School of Geographical Sciences) both represented England at the Women's Champions Trophy in Nottingham last week.

England beat Argentina (2:1), China (2:1), lost to Netherlands (0:3) and went on to finish third after beating Germany (2:1) for the Bronze medal. Charlotte Craddock scored the winning goal against China.

Georgie Twigg - said - "Our first match was against Argentina (2nd in the world) and I was thrilled to be selected to play and therefore also to be receiving my first senior England cap. Our final group game was against New Zealand. A win would put us in the final. We managed to get it back to 2-2 but despite phenomenal pressure couldn't get the elusive winner. The result of the Argentina v China game became crucial to our chances of making the final. If Argentina won they would make the final instead of us. As luck would have it they scored in the final minute to give them a 4-3 victory. We all were absolutely gutted and the atmosphere in the team was very low.

On the final day we played Germany for the Bronze medal. We dominated the match, winning 2-1 and I was really pleased to have assisted in the scoring of our winning goal. To get bronze at the Champions Trophy was a fantastic achievement and I'm so happy I was part of the team. I now have 5 full England caps to go with the 2 GB caps".
