Membership FAQs

I want to renew my membership now that it has expired but it isn't allowing me online

Once your membership has expired, your account 'lapses' and will need to be reactivated by our reception team or by our memberships team at sports-members-admin@bristol.ac.uk

Why can I not get through the new access gates at reception despite having a membership?

Ultimately if there is no reason for the system to stop you going through then you should be let through. The system will stop you if you owe money, have not completed an induction, you have come at a time of day that your membership does not allow or a few other reasons. The swipe access prefers some cards to others so please do give it a few turns.

I can't seem to book a class/the classes get booked up really quickly

This could be that the class is full. However currently our class attendance figures are not at maximum as people seem to be cancelling classes the day before or on the day. Therefore it is worth checking with reception or online to see if space has become available.

I am in receipt of a bursary, do I get a discounted sports pass?

Yes, you do. Please contact sports-members-admin@bristol.ac.uk and include your student number and they will get back to you with details of discounts that you're entitled to.

I've got a direct debit membership, how much notice do I have to give to cancel?

30 days. Please be aware that if you decide to rejoin at a later date, you will need to pay the joining fee applicable to your membership type.

What is the waiting list?

Adding yourself to a waiting list means that you will be auto-booked onto a place when one becomes available. The waiting list is ordered on a first-come, first-served basis. The cut-off point is 3 hours before the start of the class. After this point, you won’t be moved into the class but we do advise you to manage your waiting lists like your classes.

Why is my account telling me that I can’t book for the next week?

For each class that you don’t attend/attend late/fail to swipe at reception/access gate for within the given time period, you will be marked as ‘non-attended’ for this class. This will then give you a ’strike’ against your account. When you build up to 3 strikes, you will receive a bookings ban of one week. This system has been put in place to stop too many people booking numerous classes without attending.

I'm a student and I don't have a membership - is there any activity that I can get involved with?

Yes - B:Active Residences for students living in University accommodation (free), B:Active Campus classes (£2 PAYG), B:Active Pulse classes (£4 PAYG)

What are 'Interest Groups'?

If you have joined a sports club with the Students' Union and want to attend training sessions or matches, then you will need to purchase a #WeAreBristol membership and then add yourself into the interest group online. In order to do this, just sign into your online sports account and click on 'join interest group'

I don't have a membership but want to go swimming occasionally

You can go swimming at any of the available 'casual' or 'lane' swimming time slots. PAYG swimming is £4 for students and staff and £6 for affiliates and public. You can also reduce these rates by purchasing a book of 10 swims for the price of 8.

Every time I try to login online it is coming up with an error code

There are 3 things that you can try to fix the issue. Try clearing your 'cache' on your PC/laptop. Try opening the link from an incognito/private window. Or try to open the link in a different web browser to the one you're currently using.

How do I cancel my membership?

If you pay monthly for your membership, please email sports-members-admin@bristol.ac.uk to request to cancel, giving 30 days notice as per our terms and conditions. Those that pay annually are unable to cancel their membership unless they can provide a medical certificate to show that they are unable to continue to safely use the facilities.
