Support to Stop

Every Wednesday  an NHS Smoking Cessation Advisor delivers free support to stop sessions at the Indoor Centre on Tyndall Avenue  to help you quit the habit. The sessions will usually be held in the Seminar Room but if that changes we'll put a notice up and reception will direct you to the correct room. Session will run from 6pm - 7pm or from 5.30pm for your first session. To book your first session phone 0117 9841650
The advisor will go through the reasons why you want to give up and any concerns you might about giving up, discuss the various Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) and talk you through setting a quit date. You can get a prescription for the NRT which will be filled at a local chemist and we'll review your NRT so that you're always getting the right dosage etc. For example ,at the beginning the gum and patches might do the trick but maybe you decide that the inhalator is needed. You can attend as many Wednesday sessions as you wish and they are free of charge.

We recognise that breaking this habit is challenging and know that support from family members and friends can make all the difference. That’s why we invite you to bring a friend or family member from outside the University who is also keen to quit to come along.

With fear of weight gain a common barrier to giving up smoking we also run weight management programmes to help you snack better and be active during this time of change. Did you know that oranges are a great help for giving up smoking? By the time you've peeled one the craving will have gone and the Vitamin C is just what the body needs as it's kicking the habit!
