Coaches, leaders, volunteers and officials are the vital ingredient in making sport happen. Our Community Sport programme will give you the skills and the confidence to be someone who wants to make the difference.
Becoming involved as a volunteer can be a massively rewarding personal journey. It offers transferable skill development, an increase in self esteem, rewarding experiences and the chance to meet new people.
Sport, Exercise and Health at the University of Bristol has programmes in place to train and deploy volunteers in a wide range of roles. How much time you can give is up to you. Placements can be one-offs or long-term commitments. There is something to suit every age, background and ability.
Previous sporting ability is not required, just an interest in learning and wanting to help others.
If you are a student or member of staff who has taken something positive from sport at Bristol University, our Community Sport Volunteer Scheme will help you put something back.
Community Sport will also support students aiming to complete the Bristol Plus and Sporting Plus Awards
"I was fortunate enough to do loads of volunteering this year. One of the main reasons for returning each time was the team I was working with. Each time I was greeted with smiles and enthusiasm, it was always enjoyable. Then there was the simple fact that it was a great opportunity for a break from work. Getting out, being active and working with youngsters is always far more enjoyable than sitting at a desk." Jonny, Engineer and Volunteer Coach
"Everything about volunteering was enjoyable; the sports I helped coach, the tutors that assisted me in doing so and the whole group atmosphere contributed to a fun filled experience. The best part about sports volunteering are the people you meet and the confidence it gives you as a person. The guys and girls you work with are all like minded people who are out for a good time. Delivering a session which gets children engaged is one of the best feeling ever! I cannot begin to explain how worthwhile and rewarding sport volunteering is!” Simon, Winner of 2012 Outstanding Volunteer Contribution
"Filled with some endlessly enriching opportunities, sports volunteering has undoubtedly provided some of my highlights while at Bristol University. Whether running a swimming gala for several local schools or just improvising a game for five with a set of hoops and bean-bags, there isn’t a dull moment. The sheer excitement and enthusiasm that youngsters greet you with is always fantastic and seeing those who are initially reserved, or maybe even reluctant, embrace the activities you are leading is equally overwhelming. The CSLA has allowed me to meet and work alongside some truly inspirational leaders who have helped me develop my own confidence and made my experiences all the more memorable. Volunteering is something I will certainly continue with as it is very rare to find anything quite so rewarding." Fergus, Waterpolo Champion and Community Sports Leader
