B:Active Residences

The programme is taking a break over the summer holidays and will recommence after the start of the Autumn Term.

B:Active Residences is a programme of free healthy physical activity opportunities for all students living in University accommodation. With regular exercise classes and other sessions right on your doorstep, this will support you to move more, feel better and enjoy a healthy lifestyle.

  • Group exercise classes from yoga to Bollywood dance, body combat to pilates, you can find a class to suit you.
  • Coached activities such as running and tennis, try something new or brush up on your skills.
  • Instructor support to help you make the most of the onsite gyms in the Stoke Bishop hub.

Tennis

This programme offers students living in residences across the city the opportunity to:

  • Hire equipment for free.
  • Join in weekly activity on courts across the city for free.
  • Compete against other residences throughout the year, culminating in an end of year championship.

Class descriptions

Abs and Core

An easy to follow workout that targets your midsection. Equipment free standing and mat based exercises are performed in timed intervals.

Body Balance

Embrace elements of yoga, Tai-chi and Pilates in a relaxing class that builds strength and improves flexibility.

Box HIT and Abs

A combination of boxing fitness techniques and abdominal exercises practised in short intense bursts. Great class to let of some steam and get a challenging workout.

Boxercise

Based on the training concepts boxers use to keep fit. Classes can take a variety of formats but a typical one may involve shadow-boxing, skipping, hitting pads, kicking punchbags, press-ups, shuttle-runs and sit-ups.

Beginners Pilates

Mat based for stability class focusing on posture and alignment. Pilates targets the bodies deep stabilising muscles to build strength and tone without adding bulk. Mindful movement and breath will leave you relaxed yet uplifted.

Beginners running

Social running is a friendly running group suitable for beginners and those new to running. Enjoy different routes around Bristol as you complete walking Jogging and running intervals.You will build up your stamina and develop good running technique. Each session lasts hour but do not worry your instructor will take you through a warm up, cool down, stretches and technique exercises to develop your fitness and confidence.

Capoeira

Capoeira is a brilliant Afro-Brazilian form of martial arts that combines dance and music. Capoeira will help improve your balance, power, coordination and flexibility in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere

Circuits

Timed exercise stations that include equipment and bodyweight cardio strengthening and core exercises for a total body workout. Circuit training provides great excercise variety and is suitable for all levels of fitness as you can go at your own pace.

Dancercise

Dancercise adds a little ' Strictly come Dancing' flavour for a fun dance class that is suitable for complete beginners.Combining Latin and Arabic Influences you will learn fundamental hip and footwork to keep you on your toes!

Fitness Pilates

Fitness Pilates is a dynamic core stability workout based on Pilates principles of alignment, breath, centering, and control. Improve your posture with targeted strengthening and stretching exercises that will help you stand tall and move well.

Gym induction

If you are a Stoke Bishop resident and would like to use the free gym at Hiatt Baker your can book an induction at the main sports centre or Hiatt Baker. Please sign up at Hiatt Baker reception. Small group Inductions take 30 minutes. Come along in clean indoor trainers and appropriate exercise attire.

Social running

Friendly running group.The level will be adjusted to suit participants. Distance covered 3-5 miles.
