SPAIS Excellence recognized in the Complete University Guide
2 May 2017
SPAIS has sharply improved its position in the latest Complete University Guide league tables. Sociology moved up an impressive 19 places to 2nd in the country, with Politics also moving up 5 places to 9th position. The Complete University Guide ranks universities nationally across a range of measures of teaching and research quality, student satisfaction data, and what students go on to do after their degrees. Reflecting on this, Head of School Professor Gregor McLennan remarked:
'There are many ways in which such figures and rankings can be questioned, but there is no doubt the substantial progress has taken place in recent years within SPAIS in terms of highest quality teaching and student satisfaction. SPAIS staff have been working closely with our students to sustain our sense of collective identity and learning community; they are recognised by students not only as being great researching academics but also terrific teachers and supportive personal tutors. Plus there is always a lot going on in the school in terms of wider academic and social events that we participate in together. The University overall has improved its position in the 'Complete' guide, which is good news for all of us, and with both politics and sociology in the top ten of their respective national lists, SPAIS is helping lead this process. Clearly, we are getting many important student-related things right in SPAIS.'
