New research on the global nuclear order and the role of Brazil
18 December 2015
On December 16, the Global Insecurities Centre hosted a seminar on Brazil in the Global Nuclear Order (1945-2015), having Professor Carlo Patti (Federal University of Goiás - Brazil) as guest speaker. Prof Patti presented the historical development of the Brazilian nuclear program and the Brazilian attitude towards the nuclear non-proliferation regime since 1945. Relying on primary sources and oral history interviews, he discussed why Brazil decided to master the nuclear fuel cycle, but not to develop an atomic bomb. Prof Patti's visit has been made possible by a grant from the Newton Fund and the British Academy for a project conducted jointly with Dr Benoit Pelopidas on “Global Nuclear Vulnerability".
