Prof Ruth Levitas receives award for Distinguished Scholarship in Utopian Studies

Professor Ruth Levitas has been awarded the Lyman Tower Sargent Award for Distinguished Scholarship in Utopian Studies.  This is the highest honour of the Society for Utopian Studies, given for lifetime achievements and diversified activities in the field.  Of the six previous recipients since 1997 listed on the SUS website, the last was Fredric Jameson in 2009.  It will be formally awarded at the SUS annual conference in Toronto in early October.  Ruth is giving two papers at the conference, one on 'Utopia as method, Utopia as grace', and one marking the fiftieth anniversary of Huxley's Island, called 'The fat woman and her son'.
