Recruiter training

Recruiters can have a pivotal role in patients’ decision to participate in randomised trials but they have been shown to experience practical and emotional challenges in approaching and discussing trials with potential participants.

Members of the QuinteT Team, in conjunction with ConDuCT-II Hub, have developed separate training workshops for surgeons and research nurses who recruit to surgical trials to address key identified difficulties. Discussions are held around approaching patients about trial participation, conveying key RCT concepts, managing treatment preferences and addressing role conflict, so that experiences can be shared and evidence-based suggestions offered to optimise informed consent and trial recruitment.

Three workshops have been completed to date with future workshops planned.

Short courses

The School of Social and Community Medicine also runs an extensive programme of short courses.
