Research summary

I am a qualitative researcher with interests that centre on help seeking and use of healthcare services, health and wellbeing in older age and chronic pain. My current work includes an ethnographic study of primary care level factors involved in unplanned hospital admissions, and a multi-method study of chronic pain after knee replacement.

My expertise and interests broadly lie in applying qualitative approaches to questions around health service utilisation, the relationship between primary and secondary care, and chronic pain. 

I lead a workstream in an NIHR funded Programme Grant (2015-20) looking at non use of services for chronic post surgical pain, and have recently completed an ethnography of primary care to look at how the organisation and delivery of care influences use of unscheduled secondary care (ED use and emergency admissions).
