Bristol’s thriving School of Modern Languages is an ideal choice for postgraduate students. We offer a range of flexible taught Masters programmes, and research degrees at Masters and doctoral level. With more than forty research-active academic staff, we offer expertise across ten languages and cultures, and in a broad range of disciplines.

Taught Programmes

We offer the following Masters programmes, which can be taken either full-time (one year) or part-time (two years).

The School of Modern Languages also contributes to the interdisciplinary MA in Medieval Studies.

Research Programmes

We also warmly welcome applications for postgraduate degrees by research: MPhil or MLitt/PhD. These can be submitted in English or in your native language; we are one of a small number of institutions who offer this choice.
