SANTANDER TRAVEL GRANTS FOR RESEARCH IN LATIN AMERICA ON BUSINESS AND ECONOMIC-RELATED THEMES

2016 AWARDS

This fund is able to grant awards of up to £2,000 to postgraduate researchers registered at the University of Bristol or academic staff, for travel to Latin America to research in the broad field of Latin American Studies across the arts, humanities and social sciences with relation to business and economic-related subjects. These could cover topics as varied as state economic or commercial policies, the logging industry, the adaptation of technological innovations by indigenous peoples, the economic expansion of multinational companies, the education or travel industries, the burgeoning NGO sector, or topics in the fields of economic and business history, for example.

Applicants should send a summary of their planned research and estimated expenditure (not more than one side of A4, as an email attachment) to matthew.brown@bris.ac.uk before 1.00pm on Friday 4 March 2016.

Applications should include the following information:

  • Name and Department
  • Stage of studies (i.e. MA, MSc, Year of PhD)
  • Title of project
  • Methodology
  • Proposed dates and Travel Plan
  • Breakdown of expected expenses

Awards will be announced by 16 March 2016

The panel will award grants on the basis of the originality and strength of the proposals.  The criteria are deliberately broad in order to encourage a range of applications from across the interdisciplinary field of Latin American Studies.  Priority will be given to postgraduate researchers, though applications from academic staff may also be considered.
