Bristol Postgraduate student of French awarded prestigious prize
27 April 2012
Hannah Scott awarded the Society of Dix-Neuviémistes Postgraduate Prize for 201
Her entry 'Composition for a Choir of Noise: feminine aurality in Zola’s Au Bonheur des Dames' received the following citation: 'a truly outstanding piece. An excitingly original reading of Au Bonheur des dames, it challenges the general assumption that the visual is the privileged sense in this novel. The essay builds up its argument gradually, persuasively, and with great clarity, and the last few pages, using Kristeva’s Polylogue as essential reference, dissect the "musical aurality" of key passages with precision and sophistication'.
Hannah Scott is also the founding editor of 'Glossia' the School of Modern Languages's electronic journal of creative writing.
