News and Photos Autumn 2009The new Multimedia Centre for the School of Modern Languages is now open and is available for use for students within the School. For this term, and some of next, the Centre will be open Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 5pm. In the medium term we are hoping to extend the opening hours into evenings and weekends. The Centre is equipped with a teaching room, which some of the students have already been using, but the remainder of the facility is designed for the students to use for private study. On the ground floor there is a viewing room in cinema style where films can be watched on a large screen. Upstairs there are two further rooms. One has a number of widescreen television screens with seating for three or four students at each, and space to sit and read; the other is equipped principally with computer terminals. In all of these rooms students will be able to access a range of live television channels covering all the languages taught in the School, as well as a selection of recorded programmes in various languages. There is also the provision of a large selection of films in various languages, and the School will expand this collection as time goes on. There are some reference books available, and a small selection of newspapers and magazines to supplement the large variety available on the web. Other facilities will come fully on stream during the year, including a sound recording studio, cameras and video editing equipment. |
