Applied Foreign Languages

Applied Foreign Languages (AFL) are modern languages units open to undergraduate students across the University. We offer programmes for students on particular degree courses, as well as open units that are available to all students on 120/130 credit degree courses.

Our blended approach

Student in the Multimedia Self-access Facility

All AFL units blend face-to-face teaching hours with online activities mainly accessible via Blackboard, providing students with a rich and stimulating range of learning opportunities.

Students in the Common Room

Computers and learning materials such as foreign magazines and satellite TV channels are available to AFL students in the School Common Room, 17 Woodland Road. Two further computer rooms (G95 and G89, 19 Woodland Road) are also accessible to all AFL students.
