The European Language Portfolio ( ELP) is a document that can be used by language learners to record and reflect upon their language learning development and cultural experiences. Through reflective practice, this form of self-assessment enables the user to gain an appreciation of their individual language learning strategies and language progression over a period of time.

The ELP is designed for use in Universities across Europe and endorsed by the Council of Europe. Language skills are defined in terms of levels of proficiency as determined by the Common European Framework of reference for languages.

From the beginning of the academic year 2003-2004 the ELP has been used on Language for Science and Technology (LANG12045)

 Language for Science and Technology

This unit is aimed specifically at first year students in the Science Faculty who are on the Year in Continental Europe programme. It  incorporates the use of the ELP and aims to provide students with wider and more subject specific exposure to the target language prior to the year spent abroad.

A more detailed description of this unit and the ELP is now available.
