- MPs reference University of Bristol research in debate on gambling marketing in sport 26 March 2024 Ronnie Cowan MP led a debate on gambling marketing in sport in Westminster Hall on Wednesday 13th March 2024 and referenced University of Bristol research.
- The Hub launches its Research Innovation Fund Strategic Award for 2024 22 February 2024 The Research Innovation Fund Strategic Award aims to support innovative and interdisciplinary research to understand and tackle gambling harms.
- Hub academics’ research cited in the CMS Committee’s report into the Government’s approach to the regulation of gambling 30 January 2024 The Committee for Culture, Media and Sport ran an inquiry in 2023 into the progress made by the Government’s in addressing the issues raised by Parliament and also how to ensure regulation can keep up with innovations in online gambling and the links between gambling, broadcasting and sport. This came after the launch of the Government’s Gambling White Paper into reform of the Gambling Act 2005.
- Hub researchers carry out two studies on the number of gambling messages shown during sports broadcasts 23 January 2024 Dr Jamie Wheaton and Dr Raffaello Rossi collaborated with UK-based Channel 5 News and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) News to carry out research into the amount of gambling messages that are shown during live TV and radio coverage of sports.
- Save the date for Bristol Hub for Gambling Harms Research Second International Interdisciplinary Colloquium 11 January 2024 This will be a free, in-person event being held at The Bristol Hotel and Conference Centre Bristol, UK (with a Livestream option for those unable to attend in person) on Thursday 10th October 2024.
