She has been at the University of Bristol since 2001. She is responsible for teaching and organisation of all Czech language units at undergraduate level as well as teaching on distance learning MA in Translation Programme. |
Jana also supervises final year BA and MA in Translation dissertations within her research expertise (e.g. in 2010/2011 Health of Czech Roma Women; Translation of Academic articles from Czech into English).
Jana’s academic interest also lies in development of interactive resources for independent study and teaching purposes and she created an extensive online interactive material for students of Czech. She is currently working on creating new interactive authentic resources using audio-visual material.
In past, Jana has designed and delivered a Czech unit on IoLET Diploma in Translation distance learning course and on Subtitling course at City University. In addition to teaching, Jana has trained and worked as a translator and interpreter, gaining a Diploma in Translation in 1999 and becoming a member of the Institute of Linguists. Translation work has covered wide range of topics including technical translation and film subtitling (Channel 4 documentary ‘Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves’ and films such as Lion King). Interpreting has covered welfare, housing, education, health and immigration.
She also regularly assesses translation tests and interpreting abilities for educational institutions and she conducts cultural briefings about the Czech Republic.
