James Carr, PhD candidate in the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, has been awarded an AHRC-studentship. He will be working under Professor Gavin D'Costa's supervision on the interface between political philosophy and theology by interrogating the work of John Rawls and Jurgen Habermas through a study of the work of Joseph Ratzinger/Pope Benedict XVI regarding the role of religion in the public square. James' work will be a seminal contribution to this debate and will also use test case studies to develop his explication of a Catholic approach to these issues.
