Other issues to remember
There are many things to consider when you are applying for support from a funding body. Not only do you need to try to write an excellent research proposal, but you also need to be aware of the other issues. This table is a summary of some of the issues you might need to consider.
| Research Governance | If your research involves human participants in any way (including questionnaires, samples and clinical trials), you must consult these pages. |
| Insurance | Most research is covered by the University's insurance cover. However research involving pregnant women, under 5s and/or more then 2000 people requires additional cover. Travel within the UK is also not covered. |
| Technology Transfer / Intellectual Property | If there is a possibility that your research outcomes could be commercially exploitable you should consider what you might do with the outcomes. |
| Contracts | Grants or agreements without standard terms and conditions need to be reviewed by the contracts team to check that the terms and conditions are acceptable to the University and to you, the Academic. |
| Project Managers | The Business Development and Major Projects team represents a flexible and responsive project management resource supporting the University and its research community. |
| Spin-out companies | Bristol actively promotes exploitation of its research outputs. Often this is done through licensing intellectual property to existing companies. But, in some cases a new company may be set up to exploit University research outputs, known as a spin out (or start-up). |
