How to find a suitable funder
Each funder has different priorities and policies regarding the type of research they will fund and at what level. It is important to identify a potential funder whose profile matches your requirements. The Research Development Team is here to help you do this but there are things you can do too.
The Research Development team can help by:
- Searching for specific opportunities for you
- Pro-actively disseminating funding opportunities as they arise
- Providing expert assistance on approaching industry
- Co-ordinating interdisciplinary bids between departments/faculties
- Signing you up to ‘Research Professional’, an online subscription that is FREE which will supply you with current funding opportunities. Further information about Research Professional.
- Delivering tailored workshops and training courses.
What you can do:
- Tell us about your research interest if you would like us to help you

- send a short paragraph describing what you would like to do including 3 or 4 key words
- alternatively, arrange to meet the Research Development Manager for your faculty to discuss your plans
- Sign up for email alerts from research funders that are of particular interest to you
- Search funding databases

- Look at other Universities' web pages to see where other researchers have achieved funding
- Talk to your colleagues - it may be possible to build on relationships they already have with funders

Wellcome Trust Funds for Open Access Publishing Costs
The Wellcome Trust requires that all research that they fund be published in open access journals. The Trust have awarded the University a VIP award. This is intended to help Wellcome funded researchers meet the costs of open access publishing as and when they are incurred. Further information is available via the Library web site.
