Framework Programme 6

Since the introduction of FP7 in January 2007, there have been no more calls for proposals under FP6. FP6 was the European Union's main mechanism for funding research in Europe.  It had a budget of €17.5 billion and lasted for 5 years (2002-2006).  It provided support for transnational collaborative research, technological development and demonstration (RTD) in most research areas, with the majority of the budget concentrated  in 7 main thematic priority areas:

On top of these areas, the Commission also funded activities related to policy-making, research and innovation, scientific infrastructures, and science and society.

Projects funded under FP6 exhibited not only scientific excellence, but also European "added value", addressing the social objectives of the European Union, and showing a clear potential for economic development and scientific and technological prospects.

FP6 Handbook

Further information can also be found in the FP6 Handbook (PDF*, 2.42Mb) which has been especially designed to help researchers understand FP6 and contains useful tips covering issues such as proposal writing, building a successful consortium and project management.

Post award support

Many FP6 projects are still running with some set to run for a few more years. In addition to the usual dedicated Finance Office support for areas such as financial reporting, RED is able to offer support for any other post award queries you may have. If you require any assistance in this area please contact Tom Bowker.
