First call for EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Secondments (KTS)
First call for EPSRC Knowledge Transfer Secondments (KTS)
[Posted on 09 July 2009]
The University of Bristol has been awarded £500,000 over three years (October 2009 to September 2012) to support the transfer of skilled people both into and out of the University in order to help ensure the exploitation of research funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC).KTS funding can be used to support secondments of University of Bristol staff previously engaged on an EPSRC grant or grants, to enable them to take their results further towards application by users. KTS funds may also be used in support of inward secondments comprising a specific research project carried out by someone employed by a user organisation and building on knowledge generated with EPSRC funding. In all cases there should be a strong connection between the secondment activities and one or more EPSRC-funded research projects.
A KTS secondment can involve any company or organisation that might benefit from the results of research. As well as the obvious approach of involving an existing collaborator on an EPSRC grant, it might involve a start-up company developed as a result of the original project or a company that has subsequently expressed an interest in taking forward its research outputs.
Applications are invited for funding for up to £50,000 per project (maximum award based on one-year full-time outward secondment) to support secondments commencing anytime between 1st October 2009 and 31st March 2010. Further calls will be made a six-month intervals. Secondments can be full or part time and can last between four weeks and one year. Outward secondments are targeted at post-doctoral/Research Assistants/recent PhDs (Principle/Co-Investigators are not eligible for this funding). Applicants are required to obtain explicit line manager clearance for secondments and/or hosting.
