University of Bristol enters new partnership with Kyoto University, Japan
[Posted on 27 October 2008]
The University of Bristol and Kyoto University have entered a new partnership, working together in industrial, governmental and academic collaboration. The pioneering partnership is between Kyoto University's Innovation Collaboration Centre (ICC) and the University of Bristol Research and Enterprise Development (RED) division. It aims to strengthen the activities of each university in the field of industrial and academic collaboration, and covers an exchange of information and interaction between ICC and RED.
Kyoto University is a leading university in Japan and the university's cutting-edge research is highly respected both internationally and domestically.
The coming together of both universities under the partnership will strengthen existing work carried out independently by each and should accelerate international collaboration in this field. It is hoped that there will be opportunities for collaborative research in other areas where both universities have research strength, for example in areas such as cutting edge medicine and ICT.
"We expect collaborative research not only between the two universities but also with UK/Japanese companies of which each institution has strong links," said Professor Keisuke Makino, Director of ICC in Kyoto University. "We look forward to a fruitful collaboration with Kyoto University," added Dr. David Langley, Director of RED at the University of Bristol. "I am convinced the partnership will strengthen all aspects of our work, from research support to developing strategic industrial alliances."
