CPD Development Fund
What is the CPD Development Fund for?
The fund is provided to assist university staff and departments use their expertise to develop Continuing Professional Development (CPD) materials for commercial purposes.
Funding can be used for such activities as:
- Commissioning expert advice from sector specialists on the best commercial development for a CPD programme
- Completing a market assessment to determine likely potential, competition and opportunities
- Development of contact with potential customers or other interested parties to develop an understanding of needs and requirements
Note: Customers for CPD services might be commercial companies, professional bodies, local authorities, or any other user of CPD.
How are funds being awarded?
Funds will be distributed in two phases:
- Phase 1: Pathfinder funding of up to £10,000 to evaluate a market opportunity and demonstrate that a demand exists
- Phase 2: Following evidence from the Pathfinder of an opportunity, up to £75,000 is available to develop materials and programmes
How do I apply?
Only Phase 1 Pathfinder funding is currently available.
- Applications will be for up to £10,000
- Research must be completed within 6 months
- Projects must start within 60 days from submission of an application
- Projects should be discussed with your Head of Department and they should countersign the application

Applications will be considered by a panel made up of academic and RED representatives and decisions will be made within two weeks of receipt of application.
Applicants will be required to prepare a brief report at the end of their Phase 1 research.
More information about Phase 2 funding will be available from this website early in 2009.
