Consultancy and contract research
Alongside world class research activities, a number of Bristol's academic departments and research groups also provide access to the high-tech services, facilities and world class know-how at the University. Problem solving, consultancy and training services are also available to companies to help them maximise their businesses success.
Other consultancy work may be undertaken by arrangement with individual academic staff from across the University. Charges will depend on individuals’ rates and availability, and are negotiated on a case-by-case basis.
Consultancy is difficult to define, but a general rule is that it uses only existing know-how or expertise. Contract research, on the other hand, contributes to the mainstream research and teaching of a department, and will often result in the creation of know-how. The framework and technicalities for such research will be set up by the academics and company(ies) involved. The terms of the contract is then negotiated and agreed with University contracts and financial staff.
If you are looking for an academic contact for either contract research or consultancy, you can find one through the Research and Enterprise Development office.
